Tropical Cyclone in Indian Ocean takes a turn towards Oman

#1 Postby FWBHurricane » Sat May 08, 2004 11:29 am

This cyclone is pretty weak at the moment with winds of only 50mph but it is expected to become a Category One in about 72 hours. It was slowly movng north towards the western coast of India but today it quickly took a sharp turn NW and soon a track westward towards Oman. Right now it looks like it could hit Oman in about 3-4 days as a minimal Cyclone...winds over 90mph. I havnt seen water temps over there so im not sure, but if there is no windshear, or any cooler waters ahead of this thing...it will certainly strike the coast of Oman and move up in Saudi Arabia. If it does hit Oman the damage might be minimal, im not sure if this region is familiar with Cyclones i would have to look at the history but there will be damaging floods since most of the region is flat and in an arid climate, the country is a giant sandbox. I will post more when i have more info 8-)

Very interesting post FWB. Please keep us up to date. Hopefully the potential hurricane will avoid that area -- gas prices are already high enough.
