Active Weather Continues Today for My Area!!

#1 Postby Guest » Sat May 22, 2004 6:40 am

After busy day of tornadoes, large hail and resultant flash flooding across the central plains, more is in store for today.

The Storm Prediction Center has indicated a Moderate Risk of severe weather for today. The area extends from central Nebraska east into central Iowa. Southern Minnesota and southeast South Dakota are also included in the Moderate Risk. Watch out Grand Island, NE; Omaha, Sioux City, IA; and Des Moines, IA for the potential of tornadic supercells. Very large hail and damaging winds are very likely with any storm.

Thunderstorms should develop over central sections of Nebraska and north-central Kansas late this afternoon, and then shift east and northeast into the mid-Missouri valley towards evening, spreading into Iowa and southern Minnesota this evening and tonight.

A Slight Risk of severe weather exists for the western High Plains and Northern Rockies, Southern Kansas and into the Ohio Valley.

The main show, as it stand now, though, should be centered on Nebraska and Iowa.

If you reside in the Moderate Risk area, especially, today would be an excellent day to keep in touch with the latest weather conditions.

It looks to be a very dangerous day for most of Nebraska and through west central Iowa and possibly other areas. Destructive hail as well as life threatening tornadoes are the main threats in these areas. Hail of softball to grapefruit sized cannot be ruled out today in this region.
