W GOM

#2 Postby Frank P » Mon Jun 07, 2004 10:18 am

Looking at the latest IR this morning an impressive flare up of convection ongoing off the east coast of Mexico in the GOM... Wonder if this is the prelude of the GOM moisture that might be expected to move to the NE later this week with the potential of deluging TX and LA? This time of the year one certainly needs to look in that general area for development....

Definitely a very large area of developing rain off of Brownsville which is moving and expanding to the N and NE. This is the initial slug of moisture we are expecting to come our way this week. We should see it reaching SE TX by sometime tomorrow. Already we are getting showers and storms around the area, but no general coverage as is expected tomorrow. Problem is that behind this we will also have the moisture/system moving into the S GOM or BOC out of the W Caribbean later in the week which, if it follows the Western periphery of the Bermuda high, will also end up in our neighborhood later this week too. Development of these systems is unlikely at this point, past major rain events, but of course always needs to be watched for, especially in those areas during this time of the season.
