Why does this stuff have to happen?

I just found out that one of my best friends from high school died last Friday from a drug overdose. Heroin!!!! I don't know whether to be sad or mad. I tried and tried to get him help but he just kept on doing his thing. I have another friend in the same situation. Hopefully this will be a wake up for her. Please, please, if you know anyone who does "hard" drugs, do anything you can to get them to stop, even call the police if you need to. Their lives depend on it.

It's truly sad isn't it, such a waste I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, here's a "Brotherly HUG" for ya!

I've lost NUMEROUS friends over the years, high school classmates to be exact, to alcoholism....being raised on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, alcoholism runs RAMPANT there, actually, MOST Native American societies are plagued with this sort of problem. I don't understand...there is SO MUCH HELP available these days.

To go along with whether you're sad or mad.. I had a friend who I graduated with who passed away about 3 months after graduation.

The way he died.. he was at his house.. showing off 1 of his dad's weapons.. and the JERK DIDN'T THINK IT WAS LOADED! SO HE PUT IT UP TO HIS HEAD and FIRED!

I'm not really sad about my friends death and here's why. If anyone can be stupid enough to do something like that.. They obviously are not all there. He may have been well liked by everybody {myself included}.. but he wasn't exactly all there on brains.

I'm sorry for your loss stormraiser. These things are very hard to deal with, let alone ever understand. Please don't ever think that you didn't try hard enough. We can try with everything that we have to get them to do the right thing, but in the end, it's the addict that has to make the change. Once they make the committment for the better, than we can assist them in. I commend you for wanting to help. But don't lose yourself in fighting someone else's battle. It took me many years to figure this out, but I'm happier now that I know it. The serenity prayer works not only for the addict, but for their loved one's too. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

I've had a number of past friends that have done drugs ...there's really nothin' you can do for 'em, they have to see how they're screwing up on their own and such ...so I tend to keep my distance from those type, they kinda are the most self-centered people I've run across :-/

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Anthony. Some people just don't have the will power to quit taking drugs and then it's too late. My friend Phil is an addict (prescription pain killers). He looks about 60 years old and he isn't that much older than me. I worry about him but there is no way to help someone who has such a strong addiction. I'm afraid one day soon he will... well you know what I mean...

Thanks for the support guys. I feel bad mainly for his mother. She is in her 70's (he was an uh=oh baby) and tried to get him help but he wouldn't listen. I will go visit her when I get back home next week.
