NOAA Wavewatch III bulletin data

#1 Postby mitchell » Tue Jun 22, 2004 1:41 pm

Longshot here but for years I have gotten wave forecast data from this NOAA ftp site:

ftp://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/waves/latest_run/wna.44009.bull

Its been down for about a month and NOAA has been bureaucratic about the whole thing. Anyone else who uses NOAA wavewatch know anything?

Looking at the Wavewatch III website it seems to be functioning fine as does your ftp link.. so I'am kinda confused as to the reason it was down for the last month..

http://polar.wwb.noaa.gov/waves/main_int.html

The ftp folder data seems to be available and current..

ftp://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/waves/

Many people have had problems with the NHC site which also happens to be a noaa.gov site..It's intermittent and unfortunately I have heard nothing official as to why they are having DNS/Domain problems...but they clearly are..intemittent routing issue or something.. I would think it could be tied into any FTP problem you have had...

You can email the Wavewatch people here.. NCEP.EMC.waves@NOAA.gov if you havent already..

Thanks for responding...this has been frustrating

For about the past six weeks (and even just now) when I click the link I provided above I get the following message:
425 Failed to establish connection.

You actually get the data when you click that link??

Sent one e-mail to the NOAA webmaster and got a bunch of techie speak that even our IT folks with coke bottle glasses said was gibberish.

Doesn't work at home either. I'll send an email to the address you provided but I'm SOOO frustrated.

Yes both links are working just fine for me and have current data. I emailed the webmaster for the NOAA site and of course got no response. Sometimes it's best to skip the webmaster who usually doesn't want to admit a problem exists anyway... Other than the standard things like temp files and firewall issues of which I assume your IT dept looked into..it's a hosting problem imho...Either they can't fix it or we haven't contacted the right person..

For a fact noaa.gov domain pages are having intermitent problems.. :x
