Severe weather in the upstate of South Carolina

#1 Postby jeff and shirens weather » Wed Jul 07, 2004 10:09 am

Severe weather hit the upstate of South carolina during the evening hours of July 5 with torrential rains major cloud to ground lightening, damaging thunderstorm winds; and hail. This severe weather event went all the way to the midlands of South Carolina. Columbia had a weather warning for winds 55 knots if I remember right Greenville Downtown reported wind gusts as high as 52 mph. A large part of the Greenville area had trees down and some powerlines down. Some areas even had some structural damage to roofs. Mauldin, Simpsonville and Fountain Inn were hard hit. Power outages occurred in a larg area. I got confirmation from the Fountain Inn area that they had wind gusts estimated aroun 60 mph and trees and powerlines down. Rainfall totals estimated 1:30 to 2 inches with some higher amounts. Berea had 2 inches of rain in about 45 minutes. Temperatures that day were in the low to mid 90s. Temperatures cooled down the next morning into the low to middle 60s. An upper level disturbance rolled through the area which caused all this to happen. What a day of severe weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, Rain band thanks for the comment. No thunderstorms today, instead just hot. To some 92 degrees is not hot compared to 100 degrees in Summerville,sc My Family and I used to live in the Summerville area so we know about the 80 degree+ dewpoints which creates high heat indexes. We like it much better here because we dont deal with the humidity. Even though its hot, you dont feel it like in the Lowcountry.
