Three people have been killed in floods following heavy rains in the main northern Afghan capital of Mazar-e Sharif, local officials said.
Witnesses said more than 100 houses were damaged and 10 completely destroyed late on Sunday local time by rising waters in the villages of Zerahat, Ulmarab and Choghdak to the west of the city.
"Last night the floods came, the situation was very dangerous and we couldn't help the people," Moulodin said, the commander of Choghdak, who like many Afghans has just one name.
Recent wet weather has brought relief to Afghanistan after years of drought, however many houses in the poverty-stricken country are held together with mud and timber and are ill-equipped to cope with heavy rains.
