Hurricane wise, it may not mean anything. Last year, there wasn't a hurricane until the last week of August, and Atlantic was really active. Other late starting hurricane years include
1953: Hurricane 3 forms on September 14th (but due to lack of Satellite, a previous hurricane could have occurred), and the Atlantic is active with 14/6/4
1959: Huricane Dot becoms a hurricane on August 3rd. The Atlantic is somewhat active with 11/7/2
1960: Hurricane Celeste forms on July 20th, while the Atlantic is inactive with 7/4/2 (Both majors were Cat. 5's)
1965: Hurricane Emily becomes a hurricane on August 31st, while the Atlantic is inactive with 6/4/1
1968: Hurricane Fernanda becomes hurricane on August 8th, while the Atlantic is relatively inactive with 8/5/0
