Cloud formation
Could someone explain to me what causes the clouds just west of Jamaica to form a straight line like that, does it have something to do with the change in the speed of the easterlies or is it some sort of boundary. Thanx in advance

QScat imagery from this morning showed a fairly sharp windshift from NE to NW at 7:00AM this morning not to far from where the extrapolated position of that line would have been.
Of course...the Qscat image got cutoff again...so the whole wave cant be seen at the surface...but if you look at the last 2 passes (scrol down )...the line we're seeing is likey caused by the leading edge of the wave racing along in the low levels and forcing up some weak showers (which are getting sheared right off).

Also...it is hard to tell...is the t-wave getting a bit of a negative tilt to it as a result of shear above and below 14N?

yes i think it has a chance, in fact convection although not organized is beginning to pickup below Jamaica, and westerlies are retreating down into central america, pressures are fairly low, so I would not count this one out even if wanes tonight and comes back tommorrow. Persistance is the key now.

dennis causey wrote:Thanks for the heads up MWatkins and yes a tilt to the wave, seems to be over or just past Jamaica judging by obs. from montego bay and Kingston not alot of structure left. Do you think it has a chance.
I thought so...No...Dennis...I think this wave is done for. Too long without significant concentrated deep convection...what little is left is all spread out.
However...there is an interesting twist in the central Atlantic...void of deep convection though.
And there was a pronounced swirl east of the Bahamas too...so there are features to watch...nothing promising though.
