Where's the fifth finger?

Have you ever seen a cartoon character with five fingers on each hand? I must have watched hundreds of cartoons over my lifetime and none of the characters (whether in print or animation) have more than four fingers on each hand. Why is that? :?:

Are the cartoonist/animators just too lazy to draw a fifth digit or is there more to it?

Enlighten me.

Lazy.

At least, that's what Walt told his granddaughter about the four fingers on Mickey's hand (that it takes less time to draw four fingers than it does to drive five).
