2004 Season Not-So-Abnormal

#1 Postby Swimdude » Tue Jul 27, 2004 10:16 am

As reported by the Weather Channel yesterday, it turns out this no-storm-until-August thing... Is actually quite common! In fact, it's occured 13 out of the past 50 years in the Atlantic basin.

The most recent? Not so long ago actually! The 2000 Atlantic hurricane season began with Hurricane Alberto (August 4-22) which actually was quite the healthy storm. (125 mph winds.)

The most memorable? Not many people realize, or think about this... But the most infamous late-start season was 1992. Which began with Hurricane Andrew. (This is without considering an un-named subtropical storm seen in late April.) Then again, not to alarm anyone, but this season only produced six named storms.

The point?

Patience!

Maybe that's what this season will be like, the 1992 season. The long calm before the big one
