Can someone please tell me why "The Simpsons" has been on the air for an eternity and is about to enter its 16th season?

Good gosh! I never could get into that show and I was surprised to read a snippet of news on Yahoo about something coming up in the next season -- and I had to re-read because I had no clue that it was still running!

Because like it or not it is Successfull.. And Darn funny I might add.. And they never have to worry about the characters aging.. lol.. 16 years is great success.. Congrats and more power to them

My hubby and kids love that show.. I watch it cause I have too... It does have its funny momnets.. It is a good show for both kids and adults.. but not my cup of tea, Id rather watch the nightly news.. lol..

It's sometimes rare to find graduates from my Alma Matre, Northern Illinois University, who have made such an impact on the world.

It is refreshing to know that Homer graduated from NIU before he went into TV.

I don't watch it much, but the simpsons is funny in a goofy kind of way. Some of the situations are so ridiculous that you know it's not serious. Sometimes it speaks to the angst that many of us feel. Some of the situations hit quite close to home, like the Flintstones did. The characters are well developed, and the writing is still fresh. Stupid? sometimes. Entertaining? sure.

I know, Chad. I just couldn't understand WHY it was successful. It's just not my cup of tea. But then again, not everyone was a fan of Facts of Life in the '80's. Why they weren't, I don't know...but hey, I guess it takes different strokes to move the world.

I used to watch The Simpsons, but I got tired of it by about season 10 or 11. I'll occasionally watch it if it's a good episode I happen to come across while channel surfing, but I don't make it a regular thing. I'd much rather watch King of the Hill anyway.

I don't know Breeze, we're a combination of the Simpsons, Married with children, and Green Acres. Not a bit of Leave it to Beaver though.

Argh! I agree with Duck.....never seen one episode! (That doesn't mean my husband and 22 yr. old son share my dismay of that program)

Now, coriolis.....how can you compare The Simpsons with the Flintstones?!?!! If I can remember that far back, the Flintstones didn't seem to worship stupididty....use tasteless jokes....make vulgar noises.....etc., etc.!!

(I did kind of like what's-her-names' blue hair though......p )

Simpsons is just well, the Simpsons. In college, I might add, everyone is addicted to it. Every tube your turn to has Homer saying D'oh. I don't know why I like the show, but I do. Bart and Lisa stay in the same grade throughout the 16 years.... something that I never would attempt to accomplish.

At least The Flintstones was loosely based upon Jackie Gleason's ever-popular The Honeymooners...Homer Simpson is unlike any r/l or imaginary character in the annals of history.
