but clearly over the last 100 years there have been reasons enough for people to believe that some things are worth fighting for...

For example...

I suspect there will millions who thought that Pearl Harbor was so far away that it didn't justify a U. S. military response.

I suspect there were millions who thought Korea was so far away that it didn't justify a U. S. military response.

As a Vietnam vet, I know firsthand that there were millions who felt the cause was senseless and the battlefield was so far away that it didn't justify a U. S. military response.

I know there were millions who thought the cause in Kosovo was not worth pursing and was so far way that it didn't justify a U. S. military response.

I know there were millions who thought that an invasion of Kuwait in the 1990's was not a cause worth joining and was so far away that it didn't justify a U. S. military response.

I know there were millions who thought that chasing down Al Queda and Taliban in Afghanistan was not a cause worth pursing and was so far away that it didn't justify a U. S. military response.

Whether proactive or reactive, the United States has shared our sons and daughters for causes worth pursuing that benefit others less fortunate.

There is no more noble act than that which they are again puruing right now on behalf of what is right.
