This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Question about same names going to same area

#1 Postby cycloneye » Tue Aug 03, 2004 6:46 pm

Hurricane Bonnie payed a visit to North Carolina a few years ago and my question is if this Bonnie of 2004 goes to North Carolina and is a BIF IF as we know about the trough but if it goes do anyone knows how many times in past history the same name goes to the area or state that it went a few years back?

Allisons in 1989 and 2001 both made landfall in the Houston area.

EDIT: Alicia in 1983 is also from that set of names and, as you know, also made landfall in the Houston area.

It seems "A" storms like Texas.

1955 Hurricane Alice (just south of Texas)
1957 Hurricane Audrey (TX/LA border)
1958 Tropical Storm Alma (south of Texas)
1964 Tropical Storm Abby
1977 Hurricane Anita (south of Texas)
1978 Tropical Storm Amelia
1980 Hurricane Allen
1983 Hurricane Alicia
1989 Tropical Storm Allison
1993 Tropical Storm Arlene
2001 Tropical Storm Allison

Oh, another "repeat offender" is Claudette hitting Texas in 1979 and 2003.

Now take this with a grain of salt because I was born in 1984, but am I right if I say that in 1985, a hurricane named Danny hit Louisiana? I know one hit the Mississippi River Delta of Louisiana in 1997 named Danny, which later hit Alabama.

Danny in the 80s

While I didn't follow hurricanes closely back in 1985 seeing as I was only 10 years old, I do know where on the hurricane center site you can get tracking maps for all the seasons going back decades. Here is the 1985 one, showing that yes, a hurricane named Danny hit Louisiana...

Kinda makes me wonder how one of each name compared to its other "campanion," if you know what I mean by that.

But in case you don't, I mean how, for instance Danny in 1985, compared to Danny in 1997, according to people who experienced both.
