#1 Postby CaptinCrunch » Mon Aug 09, 2004 12:55 pm

Severe Weather Summary

A strong cold front for this time of year is heading eastward into the western Great Lakes this morning. By tomorrow morning, it will be pushing east of Detroit and Cleveland. Dew points out ahead of this front are in the 60s. Strong upper-level dynamics and heating of the day will aid in destabilizing the atmosphere. Thunderstorms this morning over southern Wisconsin and northern Michigan will tend to weaken. Northeastern Illinois, northern Indiana, northwestern Ohio, and lower Michigan will the the prime area for strong to severe thunderstorms, mainly from this afternoon on into tonight.

The western end of the cold front is dropping southward through northern Colorado and northern Kansas this morning. Dew points of 60 or higher are in place. CAPE values are expected to be 2,000 j/kg or higher by later today in eastern Colorado and westernmost Kansas, with lifted indices of -3 to -4. The main threat will be strong winds and hail.
