surf... on the way

#1 Postby c5Camille » Tue Aug 10, 2004 9:09 am

sitting here with my 7'2" and my 10' boards ready...
plenty of wax... backpack packed... powerbars, water,
advil, towels... gas tank topped off...

looks like a warm up session at Gulf Shores Thursday
afternoon... should have a nice chest to head high ground
swell with ofshore winds...

then comes the weekend!
not sure when or where... but possible epic GOM surf
this weekend... Maybe Amazons in Panama City...
How big?

Camille: Being a surfer from the right coast, I had to travel to Biloxi on business in easrly May but had no real hope to catch swell on the GOM. Was I ever wrong, the day i flew into Mobile I headed over to Pensacola Bch and the waves were chest high and you've never seen anyone scramble to rent a board so fast...took me four surf shops to find a rental board. Ended up scoring two really epic session that week and the guys in the line-up were SO friendly. I'll never forget the great time I had on the third coast.

With out question the GOM is the most under rated surf for East Coasters. I have surfed both and can say the Amazons is likely one of the top 3 surf spots for all of Florida. Maybe reef road and of course the inlet but nothing fires like the Pan Handle during hurricane season!
