My wife and I are scheduled to fly out of Ft Lauderdale airport Friday evening at 7:30. We are headed to Denver for vacation. What affects may Charlie have on commercial airline traffic leaving sout florida??? At what point do they begin cancelling flights? Any comments are much appreciated.

jjfl, It will usually depend on the winds: strength and direction. If you can take off safely, you can run around the issues...if the winds are not safe at the airport you might be delayed. The jury is still out, but from the current models, ya might be okay, but a little easterly jog could change that...Keep watching

Hi,
My guess and it is only a guess.. is that it would vary from year to year as equipment improves, and as insurance policies on airlines also vary.. these latter much more suddenly and sometimes without telling customers.. as in the State Farm co. cancelling earthquake insurance for CA prior to a quake some yrs back, and not telling policyholders {according to a sixty minutes program}.
I suggest you ask the airport, and also the airline... they may have different guidelines for stopping activity. In human affairs, things generally become less reliable as storms interfere.
best wishes.
