Category Three near Tampa Bay - This is a nightmare

#1 Postby Valkhorn » Fri Aug 13, 2004 1:09 am

Looks like its coming down to the wire with Charley. With the current radar out of Key West, Charley looks to be affected little by Cuba. Go figure that it went around the Isle of Youth, and across the narrowest part of Cuba.

The eye of Charley is simply amazing. It's small, compact, and since the pressure has been lowering all day it's only a matter of time for the wind speeds to catch up. I wouldn't be suprised if it's a Cat 3 for the next update, or at least if it's at 110mph.

With the 24 hours of extremely favorable conditions and near bath water underneath it we could be looking at some explosive development tomorrow morning.

And, as for the models, looks like it'll be a nightmare for Tampa Bay.

All I can say is unless something drastically changes tonight, Charley will be a retired name, without a doubt. I hope those of you in Tampa Bay and Florida, as well as all of you along the East Coast in the path of this thing heed the warnings and do whatever you can to get out of the way.

There are no best case scenarios with a thing like this. This really is a mind blow - you never expect a thing like this and when it does all you can do is watch and hope it won't be as bad as it looks.

My thoughts are with you guys in central Florida. Take care, and keep us posted.

I see by the latest model runs that the GFDL put down the crack pipe.

The black line isn't a model run, it's just the extrapolated path!!!

As for the GFDL, well it is a lot closer but as usual past a certain point it picks up the crackpipe again...

The models are converging, but it's definately not good where they are converging thats for sure.
