Need help finding someone in FL?

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Sat Aug 14, 2004 9:38 am

Ham radio and the Salvation Army operate something called SATERN. It's an emergency radio network that assists locating unaccounted persons in Florida.

Via email and battery ham radios, they are capable of conducting health and welfare checks in areas affected by Charley and without comm capability.

Please share this information with others who are concerned for the welfare of unaccounted family members:

Thank you Scott for this information. Needless to say I have been quiet frantic with the reports coming out about Punta Gorda and all the loss of life and damage there. I have family in Punta Gorda and have not been able to find out anything. Have left information with Red Cross and officials and this is another place I now have to contact. Just sitting and praying they are safe.

Scott, wonderful service. We just now heard that our relatives in Punta Gorda are safe. They finally got through. Tons of damage, but the house stood. It was square in the path of Charley.

Thanks for that link! I too have family in Port Charlotte and have not heard from them since before the storm. I'm frantically trying to get in touch with them. I'm so happy just to have found this board! I don't suppose anyone has any info on the Mary-Lu mobile home park on harborview Rd in Port Charlotte FL? I hope you all hear from your loved ones soon, It's just torture not knowing....

help locating family member in Florida

#8 Postby dedee4 » Sat Aug 14, 2004 9:57 pm

Thank you VERY MUCH for the SATERN link. Have been unable to find family member in Lake Placid, FL (35 miles NE of Punta Gorda) and posted a request. Hopefully, we will hear he is OK. :(

MaineMike...please keep that optimism and hope and stay encouraged. There are thousands of people now mobilized trying to get communications back up and running and trying to help others like you get answers to your anxious moments.

Indeed we are all hoping for the best, too.

Dixie:

I'm so glad to hear your family is OK. With all the confusion, I had forgotten you said you had a son in Punta Gorda. You must have been frantic. I'm guessing you are still in California which makes it that much harder to get info.

Hope everything went well yesterday!!!
