Earl may be trouble for the Gulf

#1 Postby John » Sun Aug 15, 2004 11:18 am

A ship with call sign C6QG4 located at 10.5N 63.0W not to far SW of the center reported NE winds of 50 knots with a pressure of 1007.5. MB. Given this information it would appear that Earl is further south than earlier expected. Im not surprised.. this is typical with systems in the early stage of development, center fixes tend to show much scatter. A large tropospheric high should continue building over the SW North Atlantic over the next couple of day's, Earl should continue on a heading that would bring him into the extreme western Caribbean, after that a gradual turn to the NW is indicated by some of the objective track guidance, I don't think the next trough will dig deep enough to pull Earl up toward Florida but rather enough to nudge the system into the Yucatan before it enters the Gulf. Very early at this point but Gulf coastal locations such as Tex, to LA should keep a close eye on Earl.

I don't understand your logic..NE winds and a pressure of 1007 does not mean that the center is at that point..
Given your rationale, the center could be further south..or further north of your coordinates
