GOES 12 out of eclipse
Images coming in again. Nice CDO with deep, cold convection on Gaston. Frances looks slightly less symmetrical than it did before, but still a well-defined eye. Also looks to be headed just a hair north of west now. One thing to look for in the coming days is how the upper-level troughiness to the west of Frances over the central Carribbean into the Bahamas will affect the outflow of the storm. The CIMSS shear maps show some 20-30 kt shear associated with this trough over the central Carribbean extending NE to just west of Frances. The global models basically weaken this trough and squash it to the west as the upper-level anticyclone associated with Frances approaches, but it's not out of the question that it could impart some shear in the next couple of days.
