If Frances does this, she'll be a 'Betsy'....the 1965 storm driven westward across the southern tip of Florida before landing in Louisiana. Due to the size of that storm, downtown Miami took a major hit.
Until Andrew, Betsy was the last 'bad' storm to impact southern Florida....a 27 year run of remarkable fortune blemished only by David in '79, and that was a side-swiping Cat 1. The NHC is apparently convinced we've now got a Floyd on our hands, not a Betsy.
