sleepless nights
having anxiety attacks remembering Andrew and not counting Irene in which we only received strong tropical force winds.

I didn't experience Andrew because we live on the Space coast but I have nardley had any sleep in 3 days I am stressing for sure. I have to be up at 6:30 to get the kids off to school and get things together because we are so out of here on Friday, just in case Frances comes a little further north.

Yep folks. It's getting close to time to get all 'likkered up!' This coming from a near-teetotaller.
Obviously I'm kidding because we need to stay sane and wary during the coming nightmare, but we are all going to have trouble sleeping for the next few nights. I find myself looking forward to next week just to get past this, but also knowing that next week I will possibly be facing the same stresses I did just 2.5 weeks ago (and possibly worse). I am still waiting for calls from contractors and insurance adjustors.

If you're having trouble sleeping like myself! ...
A trip to a 24hr Walmart is a good solution...
I just returned from our Walmart in Boynton Beach, and they are still fairly well stocked with supplies. I suspect tomorrow will be different.
FYI: I bought ten 10x25 3.5ml plastic sheets, duct tape, rope, batteries, lawn trash bags, and 20 cans of tuna. My wife had already bought 20 gallons of water and canned goods today.
I PRAY I am overreacting, but I am an Iowa boy, and this hurricane crap is spooking me. We have a 4 year old and this is high-stakes.

you can always use the supplies for anotther season or eat the leftovers. im lucky, my wife and 3 year old are leaving thurs morning on a previousely scheduled trip so that makes preperations that much easier.

I concur. Again, I may be overreacting, but my tentattive plan is that if the forecated path stays where it is by today's 11am update, we will be instsalling the storm shutters tomorrow afternoon. Then if the 5pm is bad, we will spend the evening tarping the interior and preparing to leave. Then, if the 11pm is still bad, we'll be leaving (driving) 2am Thursday for a Labor Day weekend in Nashville!
My home is well insured, but my family is irreplacable.
p.s. I may be new to this (wonderful) forum, but I plan to donate support tomorrow (have to get the credit card from my wife). This resource is fantastic. kudos to the brains and hard work behind this.

Ugh!
Far too stressed to sleep. Gotta be up at 6:30 to get 10yr old to school and then run like mad up into Volusia county to see about getting some cover on 69yr old mother's windows!
Still need the water and some non-perishables at home, went thru it all during Charley's week.
Maybe go to grocery first, after drop-off at school, then go to mother's and fight the home improvement store hoardes.
worry, worry, worry.....

I hope your trip to help your mother goes well. I'm going to get up at 6:30 to go have my SUV serviced at 7am. That should be a treat... I imagine every retiree in Palm Beach County (aka: the sixth burough of NY) will be there bright and early... and complaining!
p.s. a quick prayer for the people in the Turks and Caicos can't hurt right now... it is looking very bleak for those souls.
