Interesting decision I need to make.. help wanted..
I have an interesting decision to make as Frances approaches our area here and is most likely making a direct hit or pretty close.
Yes.. I am 45-50 miles inland.. but the thought of 120 mph plus winds makes me quite tense..
Anyway.. Here's the question..
I'm trying to debate whether to evacuate or not.. even though my house is pretty sturdy.. I'm still a little nervous.
Here are possible places of refuge..
A. a shelter
B. My mom's place {the building didn't even lose a shingle from Charley}
C. Go with my friends' to a hotel
D. Stay right where I am at..
If I go to a shelter.. I may end up stuck with a bunch of people I don't even know.. and then I won't be allowed to leave for a while till the threat's gone..
My Mom's place is actually about 10 miles closer to the coast than I am {about 30-35 miles}
I don't know if I can stand a tense situation being with those friends of mine {the family I'm staying with} or.. if I could stand it where I am at..
What would you guys suggest if you have any opinions

lived in orlando all my life. if you stay in hotel, only stay in very recently constructed hotel built with codes enforced since andrew. older hotels were often poorly constructed in boom period. i was in osceola co yesterday and saw lots of debris still around. that will be very dangerous. leave if you can. newer structure away from debris if you cannot.

Ft myers will be in the subsidence zone, with sunny skies for the most part.
You might get a storm front go thru with a tornado.

Maybe Mom would be a better option for you since the situation you were in seemed very stressful for you with Charley. Of course that's as long as you feel safe in her house with Frances barreling down on ya. Personally would stay at a shelter before I'd stay in hotel room with people I didn't know. You never know what they will do during a hurricane that they think is fun..but you don't!
Run home to Mama... I would and I'm a grown up girl with babies of my own...but always her baby.
Plus she can make you hurricane dinner ...even sandwiches taste better when made by Mom!*winks*

I was just about to ask this question, particularly about how do you know whether the hotel/motel you choose is structurally equipped to handle a storm. Thanks, Josephine96, for the question and to you flnative for your advice. My husband has been calling around this afternoon (I'm still at work) so I guess I'll find out in a couple of hours whether we (a) have a room at any inn and if so (b) where it is. Of course, with the track still so iffy, we may be paying a lot of cancellation fees across the state (if we can get in anywhere at all). That or heading to Hotlanta! Safe wishes to all!
