ADMIN NOTE - PLEASE READ

#1 Postby mf_dolphin » Wed Sep 01, 2004 10:12 pm

Things are getting a little crazy and tempers are flaring. Let's all take a deep breath and calm down. This board is not for "bragging rights" or "I told you so's". People's lives are in danger and we all need to understand that and be sensitive to it. The goal of Storm2k is to help educate, raise awareness, promote preparedness and to enjoy our facination with the weather.

Let's stop all the bickering and name calling. I personally hate the term wishcaster and we do not need it or want it on the board. It will not be tolerated......

Thanks for your cooperation!

Thank you for saying this! I for one, came here when Charley came calling and found it to be a great place of support and help. But, now, with Frances, its gone haywire! I'm never sure if I'm readng something that's "real" or if its someone just trying to out do the other. Thanks again!

Thank you Marshall! It's been annoying me too the past few days and I'm glad you said something. People should not be wishing this monster storm upon ANYONE!

I would add my two cents.... The people here are very passionate about tropical weather. Many have opinions; some professional, some not. All of you have something to offer...but need to keep that appreciation for the power of these storms, not the criticism of others who differ, as the reason why you visit here.

You can sort out your differences when the seas have calmed, but for now...even those of us on the other side of the country are relying on this board for healthy exchanges of information and ideas.

The differences you each have, including opinions and interpretations, are what make you important to the boards. Personal attacks, however, just need to be set aside until Frances leaves the scene.

Let all that adrenalin stay as positive and helpful as you can.

Very well said!! Now of all times is when this board should be concerned with getting out information as quickly and objectively as possible. Many of us are going to be impacted by this monster so let's keep positive and supportive.

Thank you because this has also been driving me crazy. And lets NOT EVEN talk about the chat area. It has been OUT OF CONTROL! This is a wonderful site that I found during Charley I really began to trust the judgements here then things have gone nuts. Hope things get serious again.

I also agree ANYONE who WISHES this on anyone is out of their minds. The harm this will cause to peoples lives. As in shear destruction not to mention some deaths. My thoughts are with anyone in the area of destruction. :(

The first post was a shot across the bow to get people's attention. If another one is required it will be private and directly to the point. Let's hope everyone sleeps well tonight and comes back tomorrow with a positive attitude ;-)

We all should be helping each other instead of picking.

Very well said. We are all tired due to lack of sleep these last couple of days tracking Frances (me for one), and unfortunatly there are going to be many a sleepless nights in the days to come. Every take care, get some res, and most of all, Stay Safe.

Yes i am starting to feel less passionate about the board also, there seems to be a lot more people that are more comfortable bad mouthing people than they are just discussing weather! I have noticed 2 or 3 in particular with constant negative post........

Unfortunately, with popularity, comes the trolls. Have forum, will mean lady/whine. Seems to be the standard rule of the internet.

I came here during Charley and I'm not sure if I'll stick around after this is over. Unfortunately, the term "-removed-," which I always thought meant wishing a storm would come your way so you can experience it, now seems to mean wishing a storm will go where you say it goes so you can be right. And when someone disagrees, the spitting matches start. Geez, it's like an AOL chatroom at times.

Just remember there are actual people in the path of this monster. I'm wishing for a fish, as should we all. It's very likely now that my parents will lose their home, and this place I grew up in will be unrecognizable on Sunday. Don't pat yourself on the back as you raise your batting average.

Sorry. Had to get this off my chest.

Folks there's always a few people who get carried away during these storms. I'm going to ask once again that everyone take a calm look at things this morning as far as the board is concerned. Frances is going to cause enough grief that we don't have to generate it here on our own.

With so many new people here it will take a while to understand that S2K is different from most of the other boards. We will not put up with people that won't do things our way. Educate, learn, and help others or leave. It's actually a pretty simple formula. It may sound harsh but people will either get with the program or we will show them the door.

The Big Dog and Charleston - both of you, please stick around! Storm2K is a wonderful, wonderful message board!!! As Marshall said and so many others quite well (Steve!), tempers are flaring but we all need to calm down. I ask you both to please keep this site bookmarked and when Frances is past us, S2K will be here. We have a unique family-feel atmosphere here, that quite honestly you just can't find elsewhere. So don't let the past few days discourage you.

Can you tell I love it here? I do.....hoping you will too.

Mary

PS - great topic Marshall.

not only is a good post, but it says it all, eveyone is going to have an opinion, none of us are going to know exactly where anything is going to hit, unless you just luck out.
We have all been guilty of viewing some others comments, and name calling, etc. but no one here is 100pct perfect of what he or she is forecasting. I have found out alot of people our trying to learn something about meteorology and that's great, personally I try to help out the real novice, but I myself figure, you can always get imput and learn something from others on here.

I appreciate having so many eyes out there to see things on the maps, models and sat pictures that I might miss. The strength of this board is having people paying attention when I cannot (like I just came in from sawing plywood and taking in our neighbor's hamsters... we are staying, they are not)... and it is nice to come to storm2k to see if there is anything I need to be looking at. Even at 5 AM, when I got up to keep organizing our supplies, there were people keeping an eye on all of the weather resources out there. Thanks storm2k!!!
