Frances unwelcome guest in Osceola County

#1 Postby tronbunny » Sat Sep 04, 2004 12:38 pm

In NW Osceola county (if you look on a map of central FL, we're just south of Orlando, and have 2 large lakes on either side) we lost power for over an hour after a small squall. At 10:45am a large sign from a hotel on the hwy 192 "tourist strip" blew into the lines.
Small tornado confirmed nearby (not necessarily the cause of sign down)
My 13ft evergreen "christmas tree"(like a juniper tree, up against front of house) that blew down in Charley and we stood back up after 3 days has blown down again, pulled 2 of 3 stakes out of the ground.
I guess I should just leave it. The root ball looks good. I attribute it to saturated ground in combination with the height/fullness of the tree.

Squall passed and crews did the drill..power restored...Surprise from KUA! :-)

The tension level is near unbearable, family already stir crazy, snapping at eachother. Maybe a family game or 2 could help.
I'm keeping busy doing "last minute" laundry cleaning, etc.
Current predictions have us in 75-90mph winds for 8-10 hours tonight.

Charley was frightening, but quick.
Power out for only 4 days here..nearby subdivision 10 days!
Had no water problems then, but I expect them this time.
We still have debris that could fly around.
This is not so frightening in a destructive wind way, but it sure will be a kind of slow, uncomfortable form of torture.
It's gonna be a long night....

14:30 update

Clouds have rolled in fully, and breeze is steady from the ENE at 20mph.
A few intermittant sprinkles of rain.
Downed/wounded evergreen tree in front at 20 degree angle pointing east.
Still have power...
expect it to go anytime.
