Your Home,What is it Like?or"Little Pink Houses"
Good Evening..Or Good Morning to Our Friends Lee of the Rockies!
I suppose I am intrigued now by some of the past threads..discussing who we are,our talents, our pitfalls, our Great Accomplishments!Bravo!I am honored to be in your company, and I do not impress easily, trust me.
A home, your home, your environment though is an expression of who you are,IF you have taken great care in your life's time, collecting, raising hell,or raising a family!
And so,what does your 'AtmoSphere' consist of?Be it the lovley shade tree outside, the Begonia you pamper in the Winter, the children you love, the Wife or Husband or lover you adore, the Collections of Music, the trusty 'Puter we employ for our discussions and pull up our WSR-88-Ds from. The Woods, the Linens, the Lawns or the Views, the Pets, the Scents. We chose this place to rest and enjoy. And the Town or City or Nation that it is contained in.After all:"Ain't That America For You and Me?"/JCM I'll chime in with mine soon.Meantime,it's tunetime! 8)
"There's a Black Man with Black Cat
Livin' in a Black Neighborhood.
He's Got an Interstate Running through his front Yard!
But,ya know,he thinks he's got it so good.
And there's the woman in the Kitchen
Cleanin' up the Evenin' Slop
And he looks at her.....and says:"Hey Darlin',
I can remember when you could stop a Clock!"
(Chorus)
Oh,But Ain't that America?
For You and me?
Ain't that America,
Somethin' to see baby?
Ain't that America HOME OF THE FREE!
Little Pink Houses,
For you and Me.
Well,there's a Young Man
In a Tee-Shirt
Listinin' to a Rock n' Roll Station
He's got:Greasy Hair and a Greasy Smile and he says:
"Lord,this MUST be MY Destination!"
'Cause when they told me,when I was younger,
"Boy,Yer Gonna Be President!"
But,just like everything else those old crazy dreams, they:
Came and Went.
Well,there's people and more people
What do they know?
Go to work in some HighRise and vacation
Down at the Gulf of Mexico
And there's winners
And there's losers
But they ain't no big deal
Becuse the SIMPLE MAN Baby,
Pays for the Thrills,the Bills
And the Pills
That Kill the Pain.'

A 1,525 sq.ft., two-floor apartment, second of three facing the street, and the only one with a bay window (in which you'd find a tiny toy poogle sunning herself, and heralding your presence with a hunting dog's "Ar-OOO-OOO_OO_ah!")
On the front window, you'd be mildly surprised to see a square-and-compasses, silently informing you that a Freemason dwelt within...the interior is well-"lived-in", due to the frenetic pace of two in school/college, and the man answering is too ill to "pick up".
No trees, flowerpots or other accoutrements to distinguish it from any of a dozen others in the complex, which is mostly to its rear for two blocks. What decoration you find within is "heavy", floral/country in nature, the "nest" of a southern-born female...little apparent evidence that three men shared this "looks like a Smurf lives here" decor.

Do Tell William Tell,Well said Streetsoldier.
As you know,I moved last Fall/end of Summer in the grasp of a gasping Monsoonal Flow.Hot,and Muggy,T-Storms and more heat told the story of a man moving on.
I moved here, this Golden Valley of AZ, North by Northwest of the Old Spanish Pueblo of Tucson by 20miles or so as the Nighthawk Flies from the Nautical,Provincial SF BayArea some 10 yrs ago.I still consider it home.
We owned homes in Seattle(Bellevue)Wash and Lake Tahoe,Incline Village,Nevada. My last home,I had built especially for my lovely ex-wife just prior to her first breakdown,in 1991.It was large, custom nearly 4K square feet on the Benicia Yacht Club side of NE SF Bay on the Carquinez Straits where the Napa,Petaluma and Sacramento Rivers flow into San Pablo Bay and eventually,SF Bay.You may recall a lost Humpback Whale
"Humphrey" from the 80s.This is where the dyslexic mammal went awry, chasing krill and 'Striper'Bass. It was on a Bluff,a Full Acre, overlooking the Striats, and further,Mt Diablo to the South,The Sierra Nevada Foothills East,San Francisco's Golden Gate to the West and the Napa Valley and Marin County's Mt Tamalpais to the North and Northwest.
I planted Strawberry and Elm,Cherry and Pomagranite.Bougainvilla Japannese Poppy and Michigan Apple.and American Beauty Roses.Kentucky Blue Grass for the Kids and the Pups..to play catch in the evening prevailing cool Pacific Onshore Breeze.Ornamental lighting to guide your way on a Bay Fog Night. We could hear the FogHorns and bells of the Bay buoys, the Metal Lanyards slapping the masts of the smaller craft and Pennants,Burgees and banners snap to the Oncoming West Winds of the Occidental thermals. The acrid smell of the Briny Waters, mixed with new carpets and fresh Aalabaster from Alabama that adorned the Rooms and Fireplaces.New Linens and Towels, hardwood floors
Fresh Soaps and Powders..a Stocked Bar and Custom laid tiles.
I built it for her.I travelled to Mexico,Guadalajara,to buy the best Upland Oak and Ponderosa Pine from the Sierra Madre and Mahoganey from South of Port Angel.
We had the furniture crafted there per her measurements. We shipped it home, and placed it with Silver Platters from Tasco,MX,colorful prints from Jalisco and had Terracotta Pottery Turned and Fired at Oaxaca.Tiles were fired and painted at Guernavaca and Xochomilco in the Post Aztec City.

This home...I helped to build.I knew every nail, dowl and truss. She was built of lapstrake Oak,Pine,Cedar and Walnut inlay. The Flagstone entrance quarried and cut from near Angel's Camp,Ca. in the Motherlode, near Yosemite.I painted it 'Nautique Blue'.Every Cedar Shake, the Earthquake resistant Pegs and Anchors at 4 ft intervals, cabled to pulleys and wrought iron screwpeg sunk in 6ft of handmixed concrete.Redundant E-Quake Straps for water heaters(3)I designed this system for,3 stories of home...it was to be safe and lasting.
I brought much of it here. Some not.The furniture..the memory.Much of it was in storage until recently. The second emotional implosion of CJ came in July 2002,just a month after celebrating 20 yrs of marrige. It is gone now.I see the boys as much as I can.I am here, alone though, with my faithful Pup..Franklin the Cocker Spaniel.
Now,I have moved from that typical SW 'Ol Ranchita that we shared for a decade and a fortnight to this little Apt/Condo of less than 1,000 sq ft.It is temporary. It is beautiful and new.Pools and Palm Trees,a Wash for Javelina(Desert Boar)

Well here is my stab at describing what my little house on the praire looks like here in Texas. My hubby and me bought this house two years agos. This house was built by its previous owner. We have a three bedroom - two bath house. One of the bedrooms is a computer room and we have another large room that we are making into a gameroom. It resides on an acre of land - which all has to be mowed once a week during the summer. On the front of my house - I have a covered porch that spans the whole distant of the house - with a screened in porch. I have two wooden swings on the porch and in the screened area I have a wooden glider. I love to sit out here and watch the weather - this is facing the south and in the summer when the thunderstorms roll of the GOM - its great to watch from here. In the back yard is a deck which we barbeque and entertain alot during the summer time. Then we have a barn where we have all the wood working items that I try to dabble in making wooden yard ornaments and then my hubby has his prized garage where he keeps his 1975 chevy luv truck and my 1975 chevy nova - he has all the toys a mechanic could want - and he wants more - LOL.
The previous owners loved to plant and care for tons of flowers, plants and etc. You will find a little plot of land in the back acre that is where I have planted my garden - I'm not the worlds's best gardener but its an excuse for me to get outside and get away from the computer and t.v. - and of course scattered around the yard are an trampoline, a swing set - two bicycles and various other outside toys for an active seven year old daughter.
This is my home - I live out in the country - and won't trade it for anything!

Ticka, I too live in the country...and I wouldn't trade it for anything! I have a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home on 3 acres of land in North Biloxi. The outside is my paradise. I have a pond on the back acre of my property. It's full of catfish if anyone wants to come fishin'
Along with a swing set, TONS of toys, a trampoline, and a swimming pool that we just put in. From my back door I have a deck that goes down to the pool with a bbq grill, an outdoor fireplace, and my patio furniture. The front is where I do most of my gardening. I have rose bushes (my favorite) and tons of other types of flowers and plants. Like my dad, I have a jungle for a yard...or atleast thats what my friends say. During the spring we have a LOT of crawfish boils. (my reasoning behind my lack of appearances at Saturday night chats) and during the summer we have BBQ's. On the inside, it is definitely childproof...but I have it decorated somewhat victorian style...and I have angels everywhere! I have 4 kids...2 of them share a room. The oldest two have their own room. My husband, being the couch potato that he is, pretty much owns the living room. I was able to do the decorating...but it looks like a darn movie theater in there. He just HAD to have his big screen tv with his surround sound. LOL I pretty much lock myself in my room when I get the chance and get online or do my homework.

I have an average 3 bedroom house. One bedroom is my "puter" rm. Nice size den w/fireplace and 60" big screen tv. It has a bay window w/fern hanging in it. (Love my bay window) It has an above ground pool in the backyard, with a patio and bbq grill. I have a hugh oak tree in my front yard w/ a big yellow ribbon tied around it, a Saints yard sign and an American flag.

Our home is 13 years old now. We were the second family on a street of 27 homes to move in. We got the best of both worlds: custom choices at a reasonable price. That was hard to find in 1988-89 in the Cincinnati area. 2,800 sq. foot 2 story - traditional. Thing I wanted most was all stained woodwork and doors. And I got it! Builder grumbled a bit but each time I repaint another room I never have to paint the woodwork! I love our home. However we haven't been able to financially do the things by now I thought we could: nice new patio, new deck (old one is in terrible shape, hubby wants a Trex deck or recycled materials deck, 3 times the price of a wood deck), finished basement. Oh well, the rest is nice. We planted every single shrub, tree and bush. Also we seeded our entire lawn (to save money). That was a major chore!!!! But we have a great looking lawn. House next door got a sod front lawn since it was a Spec home and the owners curse that lawn. I'm very proud of the fact we did everything outside ourselves. I used to plant at least 7-10 flats of annuals each May - pots, window boxes, flower beds. Now I'm reduced to just a few pots. I have restrictions now (can't lift anything over 30 lbs. for example), can't use a wheelbarrow, etc. My yard is still well attended to but it looks like a different family lives here now. Biggest surprise: I really don't miss all that flower planting I used to do. Our home is furnished with some oak antiques and newer oak pieces. If I had my way my dream home would be an Arts & Crafts home, all furnished with Mission Oak furniture. No formal areas - we never use our LR and rarely use our DR. Hubby's dream home would be all brick, vinyl clad windows, poured concrete patio. Very low maintainence, in other words. We have 29 windows to paint ever few years (some are small windows so it's not as bad as it sounds). Just time consuming. One of these years we'll need to look into replacement windows and I know I'd want wood on the inside. Big expense I know.....someday. If I had to change one thing: I would have added a small bath with a shower stall to one of our kids' bedrooms. That room would serve as a guest room/bath. Wouldn't have to be big, just a space all on it's own. You don't know how many times I wished I could just carve another bath out up there! When our kids were little they'd just share our bathroom. Now they're older so it's challenging when guests stay overnight. The things you think of later.....

I also have a yellow ribbon tied around the oak tree. Only problem is I needed about 6-7 more feet of ribbon to get all around this tree. Does that give you an idea? That tree is one of perhaps a dozen humongous trees in my yard, which aren't going anywhere. My yard suffers a lack of good grass, but I'm working on it.
The house itself is a 2000 sq.ft brick ranch. Much bigger than I need but I love it. Most of our time is spent on the 3 season porch (with a kerosene heater I use it during the winter too) It is sliding glass door enclosed on two side and a big window on the 3rd. My surround sound system is out there. French doors open into the Pool Table room. Its a little too narrow but we have short sticks aplenty. There are 4 bedrooms, one of which is occupied by my stepdaughter's baby right now as they are living with us while the Daddy is off to Iraq! Living is big and has a complete wall brick fireplace. Nice room, more than I could ever have hoped for.
Bathrooms are small...kitchen is small...but the reat of the house is spacious. Its always clean except for now that this baby is with us.

O'TAY, hereee weeeee gooooooo!
This house, a modular, NOT A MOBILE HOME, is one year old as of 12 March '03. It's 1200 sq ft, very conservative. 3 bedrooms, 1 is the office, a true *pot belly stove* in the living room, I LOVE wood heat. The house sits on 1 acre, in a meadow on a dead end street. The property is free and clear, we own it outright, no leans etc on it. We have planted over 95 trees, all of different species, you will find 2 Koi ponds, one in the front of the house, the other out back. I am 1/2 mile from the Mogollon Rim and White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation.

I live in a 1500 sq.ft. brick ranch with three bedrooms,
one bath, sitting on just under an acre. I have a three-car
carport, but, since I'm the only resident, the other two
bays are used as a patio area with the grill and patio
furniture for cooking out or sitting outside and birdwatching,
etc. Flowers line the carport, with several flower beds to
each side of the circle drive, and, there's a garden out back,
waiting to be tilled to plant summer's vegetables! Various
sizes of windchimes scattered on porches and in trees play
almost constant tunes with the windy days that we've
been having. There's birdfeeders in front and back for
the wild birds and hummingbirds, and, a big birdbath in
the front lawn for their drinking and bathing. And, there's a
big black thing with white paws that moves around from
spot to spot on the carport and lawn, catching the sun's rays -
my lovable mutt, Alex.

Well I can honestly say I do not love this house. In fact I cant stand it! The property is 4 acres on a nursery (mainly coenti palms and Sable palms) We were asked to look after the property in exchange for free rent. The property is beautiful though, we have deer here that come and feed by the house and drink from the creek.
The house on the other hand is 110 years old! Falling apart at the seams and way past any help. The doors have holes in them as does the floor. The water comes from a borehole and stinks so badly. But, it is a roof over my head! One day hopefully soon, we can move into a decent house with clean water and a\c in all the rooms. Who am I to moan though, there are plenty of people who have no home.

bays are used as a patio area with the grill and patio

each side of the circle drive, and, there's a garden out back,
waiting to be tilled to plant summer's vegetables! Various
sizes of windchimes scattered on porches and in trees play
almost constant tunes with the windy days that we've
been having.
Sounds beautiful Breeze!

I live in an on campus "old" apartment with 3 other ladies. (UWGB has new and old apartments). We have a really small kitchen, a nice sized living room and a huge bathroom!!! (We just happened to be accompanying the handicap apartment (none of us are handicap)...hence the reason for the huge bathroom. Its our home for the next 5 weeks of school...and then we head our separate ways for the summer.

We just moved 4 months ago from Daytona due to my husband's job - his company keeps downsizing
. It's kinda nice having 4 seasons again though. The house is 2 years old with a great floor plan. There's a bonus room over the garage which was intended for our kids' play room. However, my husband seems to be taking it over for a home theater. Must be a guy thing. I have a whole lotta painting to do. The computer room here is red, the dining room is green, and the kitchen is purple. There are paint chips all over the counter and boxes still in the hallway.
I unfortunately have a brown thumb and a cat who thinks she's an herbivore, so I have not one single live plant inside. There are some bulbs coming up outside with purple flowers. Very pretty, but I have no clue what! :?
Cooking is a passion and form of therapy for me, so my kitchen has every gadget known to man. Unfortunately, my family's tastes are simple (shake n bake pork chops are their #1), so I don't get to be creative very often. So everyone's invited over for dinner and a movie tomorrow night!

Isobar - you could come cook for my hubby. He likes elaborate dishes.....but kids and I are more into home cooking. Laughed at the colors of some of your rooms. Former owners sure liked things lively huh? We have good friends that swear by off white walls. Each room is the same but they pull color in with window treatments, upholstery, etc. Sometimes I think he has the right idea. And then other times I like color, but in a subtle way. Good luck with the painting. I have a LR/DR to do over this Spring/Summer. Just was waiting for it to warm up so I can open windows. I have this idea of a muted dark green below my chair rail with a lighter shade above. Then alternating stripes above in same light shade but in a semi-gloss. Saw this effect on TV and would love to duplicate it. Again, good luck.

I live in a dorm, but my home home is a 4 bed 2.5 bath split-level little brown house with lotsa trees. I like it alot. I don't think i could ever sell it...i've lived there since i was 1.5. They said when they were building it i would run around jumping on the plywood making sure they were building it correctly. I guess i was their little inspector hehe.
