Latitude

What is the lowest latitude in the Atlantic Basin that a tropical depression or higher ever formed? When was it? Just curious.

not sure...but looking at this that 1878 storm was way south....

how were storms tracked back then anyway? just from ships reports...is that how these histories were put together?

Hurricane Joan

Developed into a TD at 8.90N

became Joan at 10.1N

became a Hurricane at 11.8N

becames a Major at 11.4N

reached peak intensity of 145 mph and 932 mb at 11.9N
