The latest satellite images indicated some weakening in Ivan as the system goes through a substantial eyewall replacement process. The eye is now definitely obscured, but this storm could easily come back as strong as ever once a new eyewall forms. Shear values are not very strong, so some good recovery is likely. Interaction with Jamaica may, however, impede full recovery until after the system moves to an area northwest of the island. Even so, Ivan should remain at least a high category 3 storm when the eye moves close to or over Jamaica this evening.
