ZACK, unless you can substantiate the one concerning NO, please do not post such. It has the possibility of affecting millions more than the mandatories for the areas South of NO. And I realize it is a probability too, but for something that substantive I would like to see proof please!!!

BTW, my prayers are with you and all the rest who are packing up and leaving today.

I would think it's too late for a mandatory evac for metro N.O.?
Too many people, too few exits, storm approaching too soon.

Exactly, which means that if St. Charles did it, you can bet St. Bernard/Jeff/Orleans is at 8AM.

FIRST let me say that this information is NOT OFFICIAL. I have a brother who works for the Alabama 911/Emergency managemant department. His info to me was that sometime early today, everyone South of highway 98 in Alabama will be advised to evacuate. IF it appears to them that the storm could hit as a cat5, the evacuation area will extend all the way north to I10. If you stay inside one of these areas, no assistance will be rendered during
the storm. There is still confusion whether or not the evacuation will be mandatory.

Just want to give my fellow South Alabamians a heads up that this COULD occur.

artinla... Baldwin County was issued a mandetory evac yesterday. They are south of 98.

I'm watching the press conference and they are not imposing mandatory evacs for NOLA. They're recommending it, but not requiring us to.

Mayor Nagin said he cannot call for a mandatory evacuation in Orleans Parish due to the number of conventioneers in town - there would be no way to get them all out.

Can Anyone in LA please give me info... Closings and evacs have been posted for every parish in the area except Terrebonne. Does that mean we should be okay or are they dragging their feet? We are in the watch area, but there has been no info for this area.

I realize they don't want to cry "wolf", but this is far too late to do anything but strand a million people. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'd have started this yesterday.

That has been puzzling. Terrebonne and Lafourche are two of the most vulnerable parishes and they don't seem to be preparing much.

well the schools are closed in Laforche, but I go to Nicholls and they are still open. I live just miles from the coast and I do not know what to make of this situation in Terrebonne. There is no info at all.

Basically they can't impose mandatory evacuations because of the people in the city without transportation and the conventioneers.

God help us if this storm takes a small shift west. I hope they are prepared to handle the consequences of not calling for the evacuation.

I live in Destrehan (St. Charles Parish) also. If Ivan stays on it's current path, what can we expect as far as wind and water? What if it shifts more west of the projected path? We are under a madatory evacuation. Husband does not want to leave. Thanks for any info. Stay safe and God Bless!!!
