Eglin AFB?

#1 Postby Stormy1 » Wed Sep 15, 2004 11:47 am

If I need to haul butt down to Destin/Ft. Walton after this mess calms down, is there any chance the airport at Eglin will open quickly due to it being an AFB?

Doubtful. I'm with the Air Force Reserves, and usually the AFB's are closed. They worry about plane safety. In this instance, the Hurricane Hunters are flying out of MacDill AFB in Tampa due to the possible destruction at Keesler AFB.

There's a fella from another wx site who's graduating from basic at Lackland this weekend and then is due to head down to Keesler Monday morning.

My son is based at Hurlburt, in FWB.

They evacuated all of them out yesterday morning.

Try flying into PCB, Tallahassee, or Dothan and renting a car for the drive down if need be. PCB's not that far of a drive.

Thank you for the responses. I can make the drive from Indy to Ft. Walton in 12 hours if need be. I was just hoping that I'd have a shot at Eglin.
