Looking at some radar composites of the total rainfall for the mobile area shows that some areas ie. where Ivan is coming ashore right now... have recieved already over 12" of rainfall. That is scary considering the center of the storm is just now passing over this area.

The Z-R (reflectivity-rainfall rate) relationship is highly underdone during tropical systems because of the extreme amounts of moisture in the atmosphere. In all likelihood rainfall totals are higher than shown on the composites. FYI, West Palm Beach had something like 10-11" from Frances in one period while the radar had estimated only 5-6".
