That's insane. The World TV video is just nuts. It looked like they were either on the mainland or in Gulf Breeze. And the bridge (it looked like the one from the mainland to Gulf Breeze - they called it the I-10, but I think that would be US 98) that collapsed - I must have driven over that at least 40 times by now. Pensacola's about my second favorite place in the world. That's a real shame.

Steve the reports I am getting out of the area indicate that the Pensacola Beach Bridge has 30 feet missing. The bay bridge was undermined at Wayside Park in P'cola. Both Eastbound and Westbound lanes of the I-10 bridge over Pensacola Bay are washed out and the US 90 bridge to the north of I-10 is also washed out. Haven't heard a report on Garcon Poiont bridge yet, but you can't get to it anyway since the others are washed out.

Thanks vb. I went to The Pensacola News Journal's website and they have about 15 photo albums (10 in each) that shows how bad the damage was. Someone said it was rated Cat-2 going in, but I've NEVER seen Cat-2 damage like that before. The main thing you heard from all the reporters on the scene from a day or two out was the power of the waves crashing. I could tell from the 3 or 4 I heard talking about it that they all began to appreciate what lay ahead in 24-36 hours.

Here's a link to the News Journal's photo gallery:

Like I said, it doesn't look like Cat 2 damage to me (and I haven't even started looking for Baldwin County damage yet). Thoughts and prayers to all affected.

^ I'm sorry, but this was at least a 3 at landfall, with the devastation.

Some of that looks like more like earthquake damage than storm damage... with a storm surge that great the ground must have literally been shifting and collapsing under many of those structures...

Garcon point bridge is also out due to structural damage per the FL road closure website. I have heard no news reports on the extent of the damage to it as yet.
