Hebert Box

#1 Postby eyesontropics » Fri Sep 17, 2004 9:02 am

I've been a Storm2k member for a year now, mostly a lurker. Just want to thank all of you for all the posts. This site has been very helpful in learning how to protect my family and when to get prepared. I am a native PB county floridian. So this year, this site has helped calm my nerves as well. I never see anything mentioned about the Hebert boxes. But in tracking Frances, she went through box 1 and hit SE florida, in tracking Ivan, he went through box 2 and hit NW florida. Jeanne has already gone through box 1. Does anyone believe in this theory, or is it just folklore not to be relied on?

I tend to think that there is some truth to the #1 box. I've spent some time reading, and asked a similar question earlier, someone posted an intersting link or reply (Can't remember which) that the #2 box is much more peculiar about strikes.

BTW, what part of PBC are you in?

The way I understand Hebert's box #1 (someone please correct me if I'm wrong):

A storm can pass through it and NOT hit SE FL, but the storm WON"T hit SE FLA if it doesn't pass through (Andrew, of course, was an exception).

Kind of like hail + tornados ... there can be hail without a tornado, but no tornado without hail.

There was some discussion concerning Hebert's Box during Frances. Stop lurking and enjoy the message board to its fullest. Welcome.

Thank you, wish I'd seen the discussion. Here in Lake Worth, Frances took every tree in my yard. My street had no power for 10 days, all of us are happy to be up and running.
