...Karl strengthens slightly over the open tropical Atlantic...

at 11 PM AST...0300z...the center of Tropical Storm Karl was
located near latitude 14.2 north...longitude 37.4 west or about
900 miles...1450 km...west of the Cape Verde Islands.

Karl is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph...22 km/hr...and
this general motion is expected to continue with a decrease in
forward speed during the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph...110 km/hr...with higher
gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours...
and Karl will likely become a hurricane on Saturday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles
...110 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb...29.23 inches.

Repeating the 11 PM AST position...14.2 N... 37.4 W. Movement
toward...northwest near 14 mph. Maximum sustained
winds... 70 mph. Minimum central pressure... 990 mb.

The next advisory will be issued by the National Hurricane Center
at 5 am AST.
