You might be a Floridian if...

#1 Postby nativeflacracker » Mon Sep 20, 2004 7:14 pm

You exhibit a slight twitch when introduced to anyone with the first names of Charley, Frances or Ivan.

Your freezer never has more than $20 worth of food in it any given time. (so true)

You think of your hall closet/safe room as "cozy."

Your pool is more accurately described as "framed in" than "screened in."

Your freezer in the garage now only has homemade ice in it. (again, so true)

You no longer worry about relatives visiting during the summer months.

You too haven't heard back from the insurance adjuster.

You now understand what that little "2% hurricane deductible" phrase really means.

You're putting a collage together on your driveway of roof shingles from your neighborhood.

You now own 5 large ice chests.

You recognize people in line at the free ice, gas and plywood locations.

You stop what you're doing and clap and wave when you see a convoy of power company trucks come down your street. (extremely true)

You're depressed when they don't stop. :-(

You now think the $6000 whole house generator seems reasonable.

You fight the urge to put on your winter coat and wool cap and parade around in front of your picture window, when you finally get power and your neighbor across the street, with the noisy generator doesn't get it.

And finally - you might be a Floridian if . . . . .You ask your friends in Colorado to start sending you the Sunday real estate classifieds.

How about: you are alternatively frustrated that your life is turned upside down and thankful because "it could have been worse"

1. Credit my brother for this one. The non weather enthusiasts know exactly what time the discussions and advisories are.

2. You have more batteries in your drawer than an average family would use in 5 years.

3. You have a back up flashlight for the backup flashlight which backs up the other backup flashlights.

4. Your average person now knows what a trough, high pressure, upwelling, etc........

5. Your kid only averages going to school 3-1/2 to 4 days of school a week.

6. You keep an overnight bag packed because you never know when you're gonna have to high tail it.

7. You realize that sleep isn't all that it is cracked up to be.

8. And lastly, weekends are actually for evacuating or getting ready for Hurricanes. This weekend was an exception and boy was it nice.

You might be a Floridian if...

...your 'family' photo album now includes a picture of your refigerator... your television ... your stove ... your dog ... your computer ... your DVD player ...

...AND you store your photo album in a ziplock bag (along with all of your irreplacable possessions)next to your overnight bag.

- Windows in your area have been boarded up for so long that you see them in virtual tours of homes for sale on real estate web sites ("4 BR/3 BA, bonus room and 3/4-inch plywood throughout!")

- You fill your gas tank on the way to the grocery store, then top it off again on the way back home

- You feel guilty when you use a can of beans from the "hurricane pantry" for a regular meal

You have an argument with your mother because she pulled out three blocks of ice to melt in the sink to make room for food. I'm explaining to her not to melt anymore because of Jeanne, Karl, Lisa and possibly the son of Ivan and Matthew who may be born anyday now. (They sound like out of town guests coming to stay).

OMG...that is so Friggin funny...this was so true for me!

1. You might be a Floridian if: your yard no longer has trees...the hurricanes took down most of them and you finished off the rest!

2. you and your neighbors fence has a nice lean...

3. you can't give accurate directions because there are no more street signs standing...

4. you visit the movie theatre to enjoy the AC.

5. you go to the the movie theatre for a family vacation.

6. for lunch you partake of some popcorn at the movie theatre.

7. you go on a slirpy run!!!

You have an open house, but your house is not really for sale.

Who would buy a house with no roof?
