What remains of Ivan?.a swirl that moved back down along the Atlantic coast and then tracked westward across the southern Florida Peninsula and back into the Gulf of Mexico?.has shown signs of re-developing this morning back into a depression or even a tropical storm. An area of thunderstorms, located just south of W-155 and W-151 appears to be organizing and a reconnaissance plane from Keesler AFB has been tasked to investigate. They will be on location at around 1800z and at that time, the National Hurricane Center may begin issuing advisories depending on what the plane finds. Buoy reports show winds gusting to tropical storm force and waves building to over 14 feet. At the moment, the best available guidance suggests that the system, if it develops into a tropical storm, will move toward Louisiana and make landfall well to our west. So at present there is nothing to suggest that we will be affected by HURCON conditions. Southeast winds could increase to 20-25 knots if the system makes landfall near New Orleans. The most significant impact on the immediate Eglin area may be a period of rainfall as feeder bands spread up to the coast. Wave action and a small coastal surge would affect the ranges on Santa Rosa Island.
