Got a generator today and was able to get online for the first time since Ivan blasted thru. Could some of ya'll post some links to videos of the storm surge/waves. I live just a few miles north of Grand Lagoon, in the Perdido Bay area and the destruction here is horrible and the stories I've heard are worse. Also....have any other S2K members hit by Ivan posted yet?

Plenty have. I was affected by a weakened Ivan up here in Central Alabama. 50-60 mph winds, lots of limbs, branches, and a few trees down and I was without power all day Friday.

Hi, Quazar! Great you're back online. I can't imagine the destruction, but I know how exasperating it is to finally get home and back online and miss all the news and updates immediately following the storm! By the time I got back home and had cable after Frances, the storm was "old news" and life was back to normal for most people.

I think Brent and Bluefrog gave you great links that will lead to others, but now that I've watched your storm happen (and you probably watched the ones affecting me earlier), it's not the same but the best we have.

God bless you quazar. Glad you have a link to the outside world........ Been generator dependant twice this year and I know it helps..... a little.

I don't know of any movie links but the Pensacola News Journal previously linked has a lot of pictures. (pictures load slower than a mules kick for me.) In case you didn't know, Scarsborough Country on MSNBC was filmed there the other night. There was a huge amount of coverage on all major networks right after the storm. That's tapered off now, and I know that you probably feel forgotten, but I am sure there are many here at Storm2k thinking about you all.

I don't personally remember seeing a post from someone in Pensacola and vicinity yet..... I was wondering when we would hear from someone your way.

How about this...... could you keep a diary so to speak here on the message board as you recover?

P.S. Be very careful of that generator.... keep the oil changed, don't operate it when it is wet and really be very careful of the CO exhaust.

Hey Quazar,

I just got my power back on yesterday. I was actually getting used to not having it, but I guess I'll keep it. I was in Mobile near the convention center during the whole show. When Ivan started nudging east, I knew the worst of the storm would be to the east of us. Looks like you guys got the worst. There were some strong winds here, but all in all, Mobile skated on this one. I've got a few shingles missing and a gate down, but I'm still counting my blessings. I'll take a few days without power over what you guys got any day.

It's so good to hear from you! The pictures coming out of Pensacola are heart-wrenching! I'm glad you made it through and I am praying for all of you over there.

Did you stay for the storm? Can you tell us what it was like to live through that horrid night? I've heard that the max winds in Pensacola were something like 112mph. Then they say that it did come in as a cat 3 or 4, but the high winds were confined to the outer right eyewall which is your area. It must have been just terrible. I'm sure you are just sick to see your city so torn up. I do feel so very bad for you. Its hard to put into words the emphathy I'm sure we all feel.

Navarre here, we took a really good hit...I'm totally exhausted from helping friends secure houses. Going to bed now....I've had enough.

Thanks ya'll for the replies and links. Was watching the satellite and reading the vortex messages up until 9:00 that night when the power went out so I knew we were gonna get hit bad from that jog to the NE. My neighborhood is on Perdido Bay but luckily we are high and didn't get the surge like some areas south and north of us did. I spent the night in the bathroom under a mattress getting updates by phone from my mother who was watching on TV in Orlando. Being that it was dark, I heard more than I saw. The wind had that freight train sound to it and the house shook constantly while my attic door would get sucked up and then drop down like the attic was breathing. I did open my front door when the center passed over to have a peek and very unlady-like spit in the eye of Ivan. I ended up with 4 trees on the back of the house. The house shifted and there are cracks in my stone fireplace and wood floors...part of the roof was torn off.....but some neighbors had much worse damage. There are 5 big pines with branches that came thru the roof on the house next door and they will have to get a crane to remove some of them.
I drove down to the Grand Lagoon area which is 3 miles to my south, two days after the storm and it was heartbreaking to see the destruction from the surge. There are piles and piles of what is left of peoples homes all along the roads. The homes that are still standing are just shells with the insides washed out. I've heard lots of rumors about bodies being found in trees and washed up in yards. There are people who are still missing including the family of one of my daughter's friends. It's still all so surreal and like a bad dream. It will take a long time for Pensacola and the areas hit by Ivan to recover.
