Jeanne 2am out... 100mph west at 7

#1 Postby DAVE440 » Fri Sep 24, 2004 12:40 am

At 2 am EDT...0600z...the eye of Hurricane Jeanne was located near
latitude 26.1 north...longitude 71.2 west or about 360 miles...
585 km...east of great abaco island.

Jeanne is moving toward the west near 7 mph ...10 km/hr. This
motion is expected to continue during the next 24 hours with a
gradual increase in forward speed.

Reports from an Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft indicate
that maximum sustained winds are now near 100 mph...160 km/hr...
with higher gusts. However...some strengthening is possible during
the next day or two.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 45 miles... 75 km...
from the center...and tropical storm force winds extend outward up
to 140 miles...220 km.

The latest minimum central pressure reported by the hurricane hunter
is 969 mb...28.61 inches.

Only thing I can figure is that recon has not sampled the entire area. 74 Knot flight level = 100 MPH surface. HMMMMM.
