Jeanne's Ridge

Can someone tell me what the thinning of the black over Florida is? Is Jeanne breaking through the ridge or trough? Can you explain what I'm seeing?

that appears to be just the standard subsidence that precedes a hurricane.
But I'll keep looking.

It's evaporation - those clouds were associated w/ Jeanne's outflow from yesterday. The black was just an indication of air that is more moist than the surrounding red areas. Notice how the "black" is still moving west over FL - a great indicator of the ridge in the mid/upper levels w/ easterly flow still prevalent.

You are seeing evidence of a ridge holding north of Jeanne with a east to west flow with Jeanne traversing along the southern edge of the ridge. This ridge also noses down in front of Jeanne but is weakening as Jeanne pushes against it. This is where once the ridge out in front of Jeanne is nosed northward along with the trough approaching and weakening it from the NW that Jeanne is expected to begin rounding the SW portion of the ridge and begin moving more northward along the back side of it. Problem here is that the ridge seems to be dropping southward which could push Jeanne more westward before the turn.
