Would you board up if you were in Sarasota?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Would you board up if you were in Sarasota?

#1 Postby gtalum » Sat Sep 25, 2004 10:21 am

I live in Sarasota. Well actually I'm a tad northeast of Sarasota on the Sarasota/Manatee County line, but not by much. Anyway, would you board up for Jeanne if you were where I am? It will only take me a couple of hours since the boards are cut and the holes are drilled already thanks to Ivan, so it's not too late yet.

We put ours up here in extreme southern Dade. I figure, better safe than sorry (our wood was cut and holes drilled as well - took less than an hour)...besides, it's AWESOME sleeping with the wood up! LOL Honestly, see what your local mets are saying, and take their advice.

Since Manatee EOC is contemplating evacuations, I'd prepare my home, board up, they come down as easily as the windows would blow in if this chick doesn't move...

Sarasota is under a Hurricane watch/Tropical Storm warning,........ you can watch the radar out of Melbourne or Miami and judge for yourself a little later this afternoon as you see whats going on.
As well even the long range radar from Tampa is now picking up Jeanne.
I will wait until later, but as already mentioned better to be safe than have damage that could be prevented.

I think it was unnecessary but I went ahead and put them up. It only took ~45 minutes. I kept thinking ho whorrible it woul dbe to have damage that could have been prevented by plywood that's already sitting in my garage with holes already drilled... Better to feel like I wasted the effort tomorrow than to regret not having done it! Besides, it's not like I couldn't use the physical exertion.

Keep in mind that with the forecast track, whatever Sarasota gets Tampa will likely get worse. It looks like it will be similar to Frances but slightly worse wind damage and less flood damage because of Jeanne's higher speed.
