first squall moving in ...

I'm getting the first squall now here in Jupiter (far NE corner of Palm Beach County ... about 27N 80W ... for those not from this area). Eyewall just now hitting the east end of Grand Bahama Island, which is at roughly 78W. Winds not too crazy yet, but a couple sheets of rain pelting the shutters.

second band hitting ... more powerful

#2 Postby Weatherboy1 » Sat Sep 25, 2004 12:16 pm

Still haven't had the power flicker or anything, but we're getting the second real band now. My guess is sustained 20-30 mph, and at least one good gust up to 40-ish. I don't have a way to measure so I'm just going by feel. Rain is a bit heavier as well. Also, as far as track, I don't know what impact, if any, land interaction will have with Grand Bahama. But while the eye appears to have jogged north in satellite, radar shows it's moving due west along the north coast of that island. With a little luck, here in Jupiter, we may be able to dodge the eye/eyewall with it passing a bit to the north. But here's a big wish of good luck to whomever gets the most direct hit.
