Damage Report from Stuart

#1 Postby BPJR051 » Sun Sep 26, 2004 10:56 am

Amazingly no serious injuries or deaths reported to EOC at this time. Search and rescue efforts still on-going. Much more structural damage then in Frances. Many reports of roof collapses in homes and businesses. Not as many tree's down this time though??? Both causways to the island are closed. Curfew still in effect, alcohol ban still in effect.

I'm glad you are ok, and that no deaths were reported - good news.

I suspect Frances took most of the trees, and weakened the structural integrity of many things, and Jeanne just finished them off. :(

I read about two possible deaths in the Palm Beach Post when the site was up briefly.

One surfer in South Florida is missing and, and one guy is missing who drove his car across a bridge when the wind was 100mph and his car went airborne.

Yeah i'm thinking frances took most of the trees and leaves with her. There are probably not as many leaves on the trees to catch the wind, plus the ones spared by frances are much stronger. Glad to see that you made it through the storm...where did you ride it out at?

I'm only reporting situation in Martin County. I have heard of storm related deaths in other counties. Sorry for confusion.

I heard a car crossed the causeway (even though road closed) between Jensen and hutchinson and ended up in the sea? Is this true?

My mother rode it out in a CBS home in Stuart. She had minor roof damage from Frances, but now her roof is leaking in every room. Her pool enclosure is twisted wreckage, all of her fence is down. She said that her neighbor down the street lost his entire roof, his CBS house peeled like an orange...

I saw a report that a man tried to drive across the Hutchinson Island Bridge and was witnessed by 2 separate people being blown over the side. The Coast Guard responded as soon as they could and found no car. They did say a large gap was seen in the guardrail on the bridge and that the drop alone was probably fatal...
