...DISCUSSION...
FINALLY A QUIET NIGHT AT WORK WITH LISA FAR OUT TO SEA AND
JEANNE NOW HPC'S RESPONSIBILITY.  TO REFLECT ON HOW BUSY IT HAS
BEEN SO FAR... THIS IS THE MOST ACTIVE SEASON TO DATE UP UNTIL
SEPT 27 EVER SEEN IN TERMS OF NOAA'S ACCUMULATED CYCLONE ENERGY
(ACE) INDEX.  IN FACT...IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY...2004 WOULD BE
THE 5TH MOST ACTIVE ACE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN IN 1851...WITH 1950-
1893-1995-1926 BEING THE TOP 4.  ONTO THE CURRENT WEATHER...

This is from the 8:05 discussion as they are taking a break from the very active past 6 weeks and they deserve the rest. And look what they say about the 2004 season in general wow what a season and to think it is not over yet.

I bet they are feeling a bit depressed also, because quite obviously those people at NHC eat, sleep, and breathe weather. a hurricane is stress on them, but also a lot of excitement and busy time. Once in a lull, even the NHC probably wishes there was SOMETHING substantial to track and monitor.

Now the question is how many days or weeks they will be in a not active duty work. Also the squadron must be tired of flying the missions to many systems this season.

Damn, I cant blame them .... weve all been bugging out at our computers and most of us are just amateurs or interested parties..... I cant imagine what the workload down at NHC must have been like. Heres to them getting some much needed sleep!

Does anyone know how cyclonic energy is calculated? Do they take into account wind speed & time at that speed?

Also, does anyone know how much energy has been expended in Florida alone this season?

I would think it is way above 1.21 jiga-watts.(JK)

That would be a cool way to look at things. I think it would also shock most people, to see how powerful hurricanes are versus something like an atomic weapon.

Just a thought

Re: NHC. Man, that's a whole lot of pressure to have the responsibility of millions of lives relying on their advisories, plus taking the heat when landfall/intensity don't end up exactly as forecasted. (*coughs* Charley)

Kudos to NHC! Take a deep breath, gang, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

They sure do deserve a rest!!!

They have save thousands of lives in Florida alone. One good thing about this season, is the great job they have done. They all deserve a round of applause. :) :) :)

Seasons like this must be very rewarding to them. It has to be tough to be the bearers of bad news, but very rewarding when it is all said and done.
