Jeanne Pics from Indian Rocks Bch/Indian Shores (Gulf coast)

#1 Postby hibiscushouse » Tue Sep 28, 2004 10:47 am

Not nearly as dramatic as many of those that have suffered far worse, but here's what it was like in my little part of the world when Jeanne came near.
And don't fuss at me, b/c I know many of these pictures are the "do not try this at home" type of pictures. But nevertheless, here they are:

The narrows in Indian Shores, around 9:30 in the morning on Sunday:

Across the street from the Frog Pond in Redington beach right before things got bad:

The hobie isn't tied down tight enough:

Looking south in Indian Shores:

One of the area's finest:

Police disappearing:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 90_IMG.jpg

Strong gust:

Helpful visitor from Arkansas that came down to the West coast on his vacation b/c his regular vacation place in Pensacola was destroyed:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 93_IMG.jpg

Coming back in:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 96_IMG.jpg

Ouch:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 97_IMG.jpg

Things are getting worse:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 00_IMG.jpg

Time to get on home:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 01_IMG.jpg

Gulf Boulevard heading north in Indian Rocks Beach:

Looking southeast across the bay off our dock:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 04_IMG.jpg

This boat did ok in Frances, but the mast snapped in Jeanne:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 07_IMG.jpg

Our next door neighbors dock is floating up with every wave. It held together though:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 08_IMG.jpg

This is the difference when you build your dock at the seawall cap level:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 09_IMG.jpg

Again, our dock, their docks:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 10_IMG.jpg

We watched these two sailboats get hammered for 12 hours straight. They came out ok:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 13_IMG.jpg

They are building a house next door to our condo on the beach, and this peeled off sometime after we left in the morning:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 15_IMG.jpg

At 7:30 at night, it was still howling on the beaches:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/ ... 17_IMG.jpg

These next few were taken yesterday, Monday September 27th. Still rough for our side of Florida, and messy:

Facing north:

Facing south:

Are you near Dunedin or Clearwater? I have two sisters in Dunedin, one lives one the inner coastal waterway, the other inland. But, my one sister said that she thinks it must look alott like Cape Coral did after Charley, up there.

I'm not sure what Cape Coral looked like after Charley. I'm sorry.
Seems like my particular area had a lot more roof damage this time. But I think we, on the beaches, didn't do as bad as I would have imagined. Of course, my roof is intact.
We are south of Dunedin/Clw. Between Clw and St. Pete beaches.

You should have gone out it that weather!!!!!! :grr:

Ah... just kidding, I did the same thing, but haven't figured out a way to post pictures. Makes it even worse on me when "they" repeatedly say, "Don't venture outside!". Gets the juices flowing to go take a peak.

great pics!!! I love this area. Tried to get down to Fort Desoto yesterday around 3:00 in the afternoon but county trucks had it blocked. Power lines down. St. Pete beach looked to be battered somewhat but couldn't tell whether from Frances or Jeanne.

 The weather wasn't too bad when we ventured out. And besides, we called The Frog Pond and they were open, much to our surprise. And if you've ever had one of the breakfasts at that restaurant, then you'd understand. ;)
But, by the time we got done checking on a couple of our properties and the weather started turning like the pictures show along Gulf Blvd., you should have heard what I was saying to my husband in the car..."this was your idea :grr: ....get me the heck home  !"

I put my pictures on photobucket.com
There's lots of web sites similar to choose from. But you join and then start an album, then upload your pictures to their site. To add them to an email or anything else, you copy the url code that they assign each picture and then paste them into your email, etc.

Hibuscushouse--

Thanks so much for all the pictures. I haven't been to Indian Rocks, Indian Shores, and Redington for almost 10 years, but it is still as lovely (in those last few pics, at least!) as I remember. I haven't eaten at Frog Pond. Our favorites were Crabby Bill's, Hungry Fisherman, and Pajano's. I don't even know if Pajano's is still there because that was awhile ago when I was a child!
I'm glad y'all didn't have it as hard as they did on other side of the state. Lord knows, they need to have someplace for tourists to go this winter with the Fort Myers/Punta Gorda area, Panhandle, and central east coast out of commission (for the most part)!

The Hungry Fisherman is been renamed Fathoms, after all these years. It was always more of a tourist place to go, but now that they've updated the menu and the interior, you will find more and more locals eating there.
Attached to the same building as Pajano's is the Indian Rocks tackle and dive shop. They had their doors blown in and flat top roof blow off in Jeanne.
Pajano's looked ok though...somehow.
