It's an interesting article about FEMA's requirements for contacts for post-hurricane debris removal. Now, I am a resident of Mobile County, but I believe this situation is most unfair for the residents of Baldwin County, AL (where Ivan made landfall) and Escambia County, FL (which bore the brunt of his eastern eyewall). The jist of it is that those places that made contract with the Corps of Engineers to manage the debris removal by the deadline of 72 hours after the storm will have their debris removal paid for 100% by FEMA. All others will be paid 75% (in AL) and 90% (in FL due to special consideration) by FEMA. The memo about the requirements was not properly disseminated and officials were not told contracts had to be made with the Corps to get full compensation. Seems like a racket to me!
I just wanted to get the word out to folks beyond our little part of the Gulf about this most unfair situation for our neighbors.
