The only named system that is today in the atlantic basin is subtropical storm Nicole which is located in the north atlantic moving NE but in the next hours it will begin to move more northward towards Nova Scotia.Pretty brisk winds haved been reported by some ships in the area in the order of 40-50 mph in gusts.But very soon Nicole should become extratropical as it merges with an extratropical low near Sables.
Elsewhere in the atlantic:
A gale center is located SW of the Azores islands moving SW.There is no concentration of showers and thunderstorms near the 1003 mb center but if it continues to dip southward it will get into more warmer waters that will support subtropical or tropical development and for that reason the storm2k forecast team will watch that gale center just in case it adquires tropical or subtropical caracteristics if it moves more south.
An area of scattered showers and thunderstorms is moving thru the Florida Penninsula today and is related to a frontal trough moving eastward.The area has to be watched when it emerges in the atlantic just in case it starts to organize into a tropical entity.
In the rest of the atlantic basin dry air and strong upper shear is scattered in a big area of the tropical atlantic and in the caribbean sea making the area not favorable for tropical development.
