Mothers Day
Ok guys I need your help here. I know mothers day is still a few weeks away....I think :o But I have to send something to my mom back home (it takes awhile for stuff to get there...remember we are talking African time here and African time is "I'll do it later" time)
It needs to be something that is light weight (I normally pay more for postage than for the gift!) So I need some suggestions.....
Help me out here! Who is creative, I would love to send her something different but mommy daughterish. Anyone got any ideas here? Think of some past gifts you have given or received.

might be hard to find....but flannel jammies are great in cold weather. Can you tell that I like pajamas?? LOL Another suggestion might be a framed picture of your family....that is always a nice gift for those living close or far away. Wouldn't be too expensive to send either. Maybe you could put it in a frame with some sort of USA theme on it...or even Florida. I'm sure you could find something in a gift shop with Florida on it.

Amanzi, wouldn't it be great if you could use a web cam to see your family? Do they own a computer? My family is in England and we are able to see each other via web cam...
Either way...send them a picture...or even a "brag book." They can show everyone off to their friends and other family members.

I really do wish I could do the web cam thing with them. Problem is the internet costs an arm and a leg there (no free local calls) besides my mom is not very bright with puters...lol. It would take me 20 years to explain to her how to use it, let alone install it! I think it took me a year to get her to learn how to use MSN messenger

Bron,
You may want to try http://www.sportsmansguide.com for some winter garment/accessories, which would now be on sale at reduced price (this being summer in the Northern Hemisphere). These include such as China silk scarves, gloves, knick-knacks for display, what-have-you...
You can also request a catalog on that site to be delivered to your home free of charge.

Before you think about a Mother's ring, think about how many children she had. My Mom had 6 kids. The stones were prong set. The reason she didn't wear it so much was because the prongs would rub against the fingers on either side of the ring. Channel set stones would be better. If not then a pendant and chain. Just something to think about.

A really neat gift that my sister bought her husband when she couldn't decide.........she bought him a star, an actual star!! I am not sure of the website, but if you do a search, it should be fairly easy. They are around 50.00 and you get a certificate of ownership and the star is registered with the national registry as being owned by "so and so". It is a very cool idea and different. You also get a map so you can see where your star is located and how to find it with a telescope.

Indulge her!
Ya'll know me, I always think to the"indulgance" side of things...Is there a day spa near your mothers town? A gift certificate to the local day spa is always a wonderful gift, and it doesn't cost much to mail! Even the unprissiest of ladies truly walk away feeling pampered and spoiled after a day at the spa!

A few more ideas...
A calendar with different pictures of you and your family for each month. Or even a mouse pad with a picture of your family...or a mug. My parents loves those kinds of things. They're hard to buy for because I always feel like they buy the things they really want/need so I have to be creative. They also like quick-reading books like maybe for the bathroom.
Like something your mom is interested in...for my dad I get him books with different sports themes, like "The Wit and Wisdom of Baseball" etc.
"Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul" is good...and appropriate. Maybe a book with daily devotionals or scriptures...something like that. I don't know....just tossing out some ideas.
