First Snow of the Season

#1 Postby nystate » Mon Nov 08, 2004 3:23 pm

Well, the NWS fluked and instead of partly cloudy we got snow, falling pretty heavy at times. Rates were probably in excess of 3"/hour earlier this morning, but because of warm ground temperatures, only about an inch stuck. That melted, but it snowed again just a few minutes ago, so the ground is white again.

This marks the first snow of the 2004-2005 winter season for me! :D

Same here, NYState. I moved to NE of Albany from S of Buffalo. They were calling for LES to the west of Albany, but we got about 1/4 of an inch. First snow of the winter indeed.

Glad to hear you got some snow as well. I was very surprised, since yesterday they were calling for partly cloudy skies.

Good to see CaptinCrunch is excited as well...

Look at this goofy map!

Image

CONDITIONAL PROB OF SNOW: Given that precipitation will occur during the previous 12 hours, this is the probability that precipitation will fall in the form of snow or snow grains only.

Image

DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL MAXIMUM: The difference, in degrees Fahrenheit, between the forecast daytime maximum temperature and the normal daytime maximum temperature.

My daughter is in the catskills the next few days, if she gets/got snow and we missed out we'll never hear the end of it!! (she is 12, you know how they can be!)

WxMOM. She may have gotten snow yesterday and overnight depending on where she was. At least the Northern and N-Western Catskills got some of yesterday's action.

I guess we will just have to wait until we hear about it!! She is roughly in the central catskills.
At least we won't appear surprised if/when she tells us!
Thanks Stormraiser!
