I just heard that xmen broke a wooooorld record
X-MEN SMASHES RECORDS
The X-Men sequel, X2: X-Men United has grossed a world record $155m worldwide for an opening weekend.
It beat The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers on its worldwide debut which took in $149m.
The global release of the X2 sequel was partly aimed at staving off piracy, but also to gain maximum publicity.
Planning ahead for its simultaneous international opening, 20th Century Fox worked to get the movie translated into several languages in time for Friday's release.
The studio also kept a tight grip on prints of the movie in hopes of keeping pirated versions off the Internet.
X2 faces formidable competition from The Matrix Reloaded, a sequel to The Matrix, which is due out May 15.
Meanwhile, Bend It Like Beckham has broken into the top 10 in America after eight weeks in the US.
